Description
The bottler Dun Eideann bottled this Glen Moray, a 10 year old, distilled in 1990, from cask 66-67, bottled at 46%, one of 645 bottles. Glen Moray is a fruity Speyside malt made on River Lossie water at Elgin. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
