Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 1989, from cask 4671, bottled at 57.5%, one of 410 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At a natural 57.5% it is full and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
