Description
Cordon Negro, in its frosted black bottle, is one of the most recognised cavas in the world and a cornerstone of the Freixenet range. This Gran Seleccion Brut is made from the three traditional cava grapes, Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada, grown in Catalonia. It follows the traditional method, refermented in bottle and rested on the lees, which gives the toasted bread and almond character that sets cava apart from tank-made fizz, with a brut dosage for a dry finish.
The wine is a bright straw yellow with a fine, active bead. The nose leads with apple, pear and citrus over toasted bread and a nutty note, while the palate is dry and well balanced with a clean, fresh finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It is a versatile aperitif and suits shellfish, white fish, salads and hard, nutty cheese.
