Description
Ferrari, run by the Lunelli family in Trentino, is Italy's benchmark traditional-method house, working in the cool foothills of the Alps. Perle is a vintage cuvee, here from 2018, made predominantly from mountain-grown Chardonnay. Like Champagne it is produced by the traditional method, with the second fermentation in bottle followed by several years on the lees, which is what builds the toasted, almond-tinged depth and creamy texture. The brut dosage keeps the finish taut and dry, and the wine is presented in a gift box.
The wine is a bright gold with a very fine, persistent bead. The nose shows apple, white peach and citrus over toasted bread, almond and a doughy note, while the palate is creamy and precise with fresh mountain acidity and a long, saline-edged finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and pairs with shellfish, white fish, poultry and hard, nutty cheese.
