Description
Giulio Ferrari is the prestige cuvee of the Lunelli family's Trentino house, named after the founder and made only in the best years. This 2008 Rose is built on mountain-grown Pinot Nero, which supplies both the delicate colour and the structure to age. Produced by the traditional method, it is refermented in bottle and rested on the lees for many years, an extended maturation that gives its deep toasted and nutty complexity while the cool Alpine site holds the acidity. It is finished very dry at extra brut level and presented in a gift box.
The wine shows a fine, deep salmon with a persistent bead. The nose is layered, with raspberry and redcurrant over white peach, toasted bread and hazelnut, while the palate is broad and structured yet fresh, closing very long and dry. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass to show the aroma. It suits richer fare, from game birds and duck to poultry, fine white fish and aged cheese.
