Californian orange floods the front of this Irish gin, with grapefruit, kaffir lime and Chinese lime piling on the citrus before gunpowder tea adds a smoky, peppery curl. Thirteen botanicals, slowly distilled in medieval copper stills at The Shed in Leitrim. Fresh, oriental-spiced and built for a bright G&T.
Description
Drumshanbo Gunpowder comes from The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim, where oriental botanicals meet Irish craft in medieval-style copper stills. This edition leans on the bright freshness of California orange, set among thirteen botanicals that include Chinese lime, grapefruit and kaffir lime, with selected ingredients steeped in an infusion basket. The name comes from gunpowder tea, the rolled green tea that lends a slightly smoky, peppery thread through the citrus. It arrives boxed with a glass.
The nose is all fresh citrus, orange, grapefruit and lime over juniper, oriental spice and a floral lift. The palate is full and fresh, exotic citrus and juniper joined by herbal and gunpowder tea notes and fine spice, the finish long and refreshing with intense orange and spice. Build it into a G&T with floral tonic, a fresh orange slice and a sprig of rosemary.
