Description
Drumshanbo Gunpowder is made at The Shed Distillery in the west of Ireland, and its calling card is gunpowder tea, the rolled Chinese green tea that lends a slow, smoky note found in few other gins. Around the traditional juniper, coriander, angelica root and cardamom sit a more far-flung crew of lemongrass, grapefruit, orange and lime peel and star anise. Slow distillation in copper stills gives it a clean, silky body. This set pairs the bottle with a glass made for it.
The nose is fresh citrus with spicy juniper, herbs and a wisp of tea. The palate balances lively citrus, fine spice and that subtle smoky tea note, the finish long and smooth with herbal warmth lingering. Build a G&T with a Mediterranean tonic and a slice of grapefruit, or let it take a Gin Basil Smash somewhere new.
