Don Julio 1942 Tequila Rosado

Don Julio 1942 Rosado is a reposado tequila from NOM 1449 in Atotonilco el Alto, the Diageo owned Don Julio house in the highlands of Jalisco. Built from Blue Weber agave, it departs from the usual ex bourbon path by resting in ruby port casks of French oak sourced from the Douro region of northern Portugal, which give it its rosy cast. The brand states that no colouring was added, the hue coming from the wine soaked wood itself.
Production follows the standard Don Julio method: the agave piñas are cooked slowly in masonry brick ovens, then fermented with the house yeast before twice distillation. It is the four month rest in the port wood that sets it apart, drawing out creamy strawberry, ripe raspberry and dried plum alongside roasted caramel and a touch of rich cocoa. Bottled at 40%.
