Description
Don Julio 1942 is the flagship of one of Mexico's best known tequila houses, distilled from Blue Weber agave in Atotonilco el Alto in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco. It is bottled as a rested expression at 40 percent, polished and approachable in the modern Diageo style, and built around the rounder, fruitier signature that the high red clay country tends to give.
The profile leans sweet and gentle, with cooked agave honey at its centre, a whisper of baking spice through the middle and a light citrus lift on the finish. Highland agave brings ripe, candied softness rather than the drier, peppery edge of the valley floor, and a short rest in oak rounds the spirit further. It drinks easily over ice with a slice of orange, the agave sweetness carrying long and clean.
