An aged Haitian cane juice rum selected for La Maison du Whisky, soft and elegant at 40.5%, with fruit, florals, mango and gentle sugarcane over light wood, anise and citrus on the finish.
Description
Bottled under Maison Ferrand's Planteray banner from Distillerie de Jeanty in Haiti, this single cask was chosen for La Maison du Whisky and carries a 2010 vintage with fifteen years behind it. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice, it sits in agricole-style territory rather than the Martinique AOC, reflecting Haiti's own cane juice tradition.
Distilled on column and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it has been reduced to a gentle 40.5%, which gives it an easy, elegant feel rather than the high-proof punch of many Haitian rums. The nose offers sugarcane, fresh fruit and spice, the palate turns oily with mango and light wood, and the finish brings anise, citrus and a touch more cane. The tropical fruit and floral side stay to the fore while the funk is dialled right back, making it an approachable, relaxed sipper and a comfortable bridge for drinkers moving from lighter agricole into Haitian cane juice.
