Cooley sits on its namesake peninsula in Co. Louth, the distillery John Teeling founded in 1987 to break the monopoly on Irish whiskey, and unusually for Ireland it double distills in the Scottish manner. This 2002 vintage single malt lay undisturbed for 23 years before Scout Drinks selected barrel 2240 for the Dutch market, filling just 138 bottles in 2026, a serious age for Cooley malt and a window on spirit laid down long before Beam Suntory took over in 2011.

A single ex-bourbon barrel gave the whiskey its full stretch of American oak character, vanilla, coconut and baked apple deepening into toasted oak and soft spice over the years. Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.7%, it keeps the fruity, malty core that marks unpeated Cooley, with the weight and length that only long maturation brings. A drop of water opens up the orchard fruit.
