Description
The Whisky Agency bottled this 1993 Cooley for Germany in 2009, a 15 Years Old single malt that matured in ex-bourbon casks before a finishing spell in Port wood, with just 120 bottles filled. Cooley in Co. Louth was still a young distillery in 1993, six years into the project that restarted independent Irish whiskey.
The Port finish paints red fruit and plum jam over the house orchard fruit and honeyed malt, with vanilla from the earlier bourbon maturation underneath. Bottled at 46%, it keeps a gentle grip of oak spice and a winey sweetness on the finish, the sort of wine finished Cooley that German independents sought out in the late 2000s. Double distilled, in the Scottish manner the distillery has always favoured.
