Description
Scottish independent Gleann Mór placed this Cooley in its A Rare Find series: distilled in 2002, matured 19 years and bottled in 2021 at cask strength for the European market. Cooley in Co. Louth has long supplied independent bottlers, but rum finished casks of this age are far from common.
After ex-bourbon maturation the whiskey finished in Caribbean rum casks, which spread cane sweetness through the malt: honey and dried fruit up front, fragrant citrus behind, with new wood spice and a savoury, earthy undertone. At its natural 53.8% it is warming and generous, the tropical finish playing well against nearly two decades of Irish oak.
