Description
Thosop Import released this Cooley in 2012 under its Handwritten Label series, a 13 Years Old single malt distilled in 1999 and bottled at cask strength for Europe in a run of 179 bottles. The spirit comes from Co. Louth, where Cooley double distills its unpeated malt in the Scottish manner rather than following the Irish triple distilled norm.
Ex-bourbon casks kept the profile bright, lemon curd, green apple and vanilla over sweet barley, with the creamy texture the distillery's malt develops in its teens. At 53.3% it carries real drive, softening with water into honey and white pepper. The Handwritten Label bottlings were plain by design, the whiskey left to make its own case, and this one does.
