Description

Whisky Live Tokyo, Japan's major annual consumer event, has been the venue for a series of limited Chichibu single cask releases. This 2009 vintage was distilled at Ichiro Akuto's Saitama distillery and bottled in 2013 at four years old, one of the event-market releases that gave audiences early access to the young distillery's spirit before it was widely available through retail channels.

Four years in an Ex-Bourbon cask shows Chichibu at its most immediate: fresh apple, pear and barley sweetness dominate, supported by American oak vanilla and a light coconut note. At 61.8% cask strength the release is vivid and warming, with the bright fruit energy that became the Chichibu signature in these opening vintages. Youth and directness are the point.
