Chichibu distillery in Saitama prefecture has attracted the attention of independent bottling societies worldwide, and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society has selected single casks from the distillery under their 130 series. This bottling, catalogued as 130.7, was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2021 for the German market after seven years in a single Ex-Bourbon cask.
Seven years in American oak Ex-Bourbon wood has brought a honeyed, settled depth to this release: the flavour profile centres on honey, old wood and vanilla, a combination that shows the more mature, contemplative register that the distillery's Ex-Bourbon casks can reach given time. At cask strength 64.4% the spirit is bold and concentrated.
