Description
This single-cask peated release was distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2012 and bottled in 2018 after six years in Ex-Bourbon wood. Chichibu, Venture Whisky's distillery established by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, distils a portion of its annual production from peated malt and releases single-cask peated expressions for the Japanese domestic market.
The flavour profile is explicitly smoky, medicinal, nutty and woody, with a toasted quality from the Ex-Bourbon barrel. At six years old the peat integration is still young and direct, presenting without the softening that longer maturation would bring. Bottled at 61.8% cask strength, the whisky is powerful and expressive, a clear example of Chichibu's peated character at mid-youth.
