Description

Single cask #3358 from Chichibu's Saitama distillery was distilled in 2014, matured seven years in Ex-Bourbon wood and bottled in 2021 at 64.3% for an event release by the distillery. It is one of a number of single casks from the 2014 vintage that demonstrate how varied Chichibu's output can be even within a single maturation type.

The flavour profile notes a savoury, sherried quality alongside the Ex-Bourbon vanilla and cereal, and a cooked vegetable earthiness that is a recognised element of some Chichibu casks, particularly at higher strength. The seven-year maturation gives a little more oak influence than the younger 2014 bottlings while still keeping the new make's brightness alive. At 64.3% the whisky is demanding of water but rewarding when opened up.
