Description
Chichibu distillery, founded in Saitama in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, sits at the heart of Japan's modern craft revival. Venture Whisky built the site to realise a vision of small-batch, cask-diverse single malt matured with local spirit and wide wood curiosity. This release is a single cask bottled at 4 years old from the 2010 vintage for La Maison du Whisky in France, one of the early outings from a distillery still finding its voice.
The maturation is a single Ex-Bourbon cask, drawing in vanilla, soft cereal and ripe green apple across four years in the warehouse. At 61.6% it arrives cask strength and undiluted, showing the distillery's typically vibrant fruit-forward new make at an early stage. Chichibu's house character leans toward fresh orchard fruit and a light floral quality, and both read clearly here given the clean American oak influence.
