Description
Bottega makes Petalo from Moscato Bianco, the aromatic grape behind Italy's sweet sparkling tradition, in a floral style that takes its name from flower petals and carries that motif onto the label. The wine is fermented in tank at low temperature and stopped early to hold natural grape sweetness while keeping the alcohol low at 6.5 percent, the same principle that underpins Asti further west in Piedmont. The result is a gently sparkling, openly sweet wine driven by primary Muscat aromatics rather than any lees or oak character.
The colour is a bright straw yellow with a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is intense, floral and fruity, and the palate is sweet and velvety with peach, apricot and wildflowers over a long finish, lifted by a touch of ginger spice and a balancing acidity. Serve well chilled at 5 to 6 degrees in a smaller glass. It is made for the end of a meal, with fruit desserts, cakes and pastries, and lighter chocolate puddings.
