Description
Petalo, subtitled the wine of love, is Bottega's sweet Moscato, made from the aromatic Moscato Bianco grape in the manner of Piedmont's Asti. The fermentation is stopped early while natural grape sugar and carbon dioxide remain, the tank method used for Asti and Moscato d'Asti, which is why the alcohol stays low at 6.5 per cent and the wine keeps its floral, grapey aromatics. The result is sweet, gently sparkling and easy to drink.
The colour is pale straw with a soft, frothy mousse. The nose is highly aromatic, with peach, apricot and ripe grape lifted by honeysuckle, elderflower and rose, and a light gingery spice. The palate is sweet and light, with fresh acidity keeping it from cloying and a clean, fruity finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a tulip glass with fruit tarts, light pastries and creamy desserts.
