Eristoff Watermelon

Eristoff Watermelon is a vodka-based liqueur from a brand whose roots reach back to 19th-century Georgia, now made under Bacardi Martini. It starts from clean Eristoff grain alcohol, a clear and neutral spirit that gives the watermelon room to lead, then folds in natural watermelon flavour and sweetness. Because it is a liqueur rather than a straight vodka, it is bottled lower, at 18%, which keeps it light and easy for long, sociable drinks. The grain base is the quiet partner here, providing a clean backbone for the fruit.

The nose is ripe watermelon with a light citrus freshness and a soft sweetness. The palate is fruity and sweet with watermelon out front and just a hint of the vodka behind it, and the finish is short to medium, fresh and lightly sugared. The flavour calls out for a long summer cooler, so build a Watermelon Spritz: pour it over ice, top with chilled sparkling wine and a splash of soda, and add fresh mint and a small watermelon wedge to push the fruit forward.
