Description
Solrosa Aperitivo Arancia Rossa is a fruit forward aperitivo from Italy, bottled at 15%. It is built around the flavour of sun ripened blood oranges, balancing fruity sweetness against an elegant bitterness in the bittersweet aperitif style, with a Mediterranean character the maker ties to Sicily. The low strength and the balance of fruit and gentle bitterness place it squarely in the aperitivo bracket, made to be lengthened rather than sipped neat.
The nose is fruity and fresh with intense blood orange, grapefruit and fine herbal spice, the palate bittersweet, balanced and full bodied, the finish long, fruity and pleasantly tart. On a back bar this is an aperitif workhorse: its blood orange colour, bittersweet backbone and acidity make it the base of a spritz, served on ice with a slice of blood orange and a dash of soda or tonic, or stretched with Prosecco for an elegant fruity version. It also sits well alongside light bites at the start of service, where its tartness opens the palate.
