Description
Zirb Langsam is a Swiss stone pine liqueur from Austria, produced by Pfanner and Gutmann Getranke, pairing the typical Alpine aroma of stone pine with fruity redcurrant. Stone pine, the Zirbe, is native to the high Alpine regions, and its cones release an aromatic resin that gives the liqueur its woody, spicy backbone. Bottled at 18%, it sits at the gentler end of the herbal range, with the pine framed by a fine fruity sweetness rather than the bitter, digestif weight of an herbal bittersweet.
The nose is woody and resinous with clear Swiss stone pine, fruity redcurrant and a subtle sweetness. The palate is spicy and fruity, with stone pine and red berries held in balance, slightly sweet, and the finish is harmonious, soft and long. In a glass it brings a resinous pine aromatic and a berry colour and sweetness that read well against sparkling and bitter mixers. It works as a well chilled shot, as the base of a Zirben Spritz with soda and Prosecco, or stretched into a Zirben Tonic with tonic water, and sits alongside Austrian classics such as a Brettljause board.
