Description
La Escondida is produced in Santiago Matatlan, the dense palenque heartland of Oaxaca's central valleys and one of the most important towns in mezcal today. This is the reposado release, an artesanal Espadin made from Agave angustifolia and rested nine months in French oak, which places it in the reposado class while keeping the agave at its core.
The traditional artesanal method gives the spirit its earthy, smoky base from underground pit roasting, and the French oak adds the tighter, spicier register that cask imparts. Aroma and palate run together here, vanilla and chocolate notes alongside a thread of tobacco that lifts the spirit without overwhelming its character. The wood lends structure and a touch of dried spice, while the roasted agave keeps it soft and balanced at 40%.
