Grapefruit and green apple open into half-sweet agave warmed by pepper and clove, finishing on a hint of almond, in this hand-made unaged blanco from Casa Dragones, built for a deliberately light, modern read.
Description
Casa Dragones Blanco is an unaged 100% Blue Weber tequila from Casa Dragones, the brand founded by Bertha Gonzalez Nieves, the first woman certified as a Maestra Tequilera. Produced in Jalisco, the house pursues a deliberately light and refined style rather than a rustic agave bomb, and every bottle is finished by hand, down to a cork fitted individually.
Made in small batches by a modern process aimed at drawing out the essence of the agave, it is steam-cooked and unsmoked, so the character is clean and bright rather than smoky or heavily wooded. The nose is fresh and herbaceous with grapefruit and green apple, the palate a balance of half-sweet agave notes warmed by a touch of pepper and clove. The finish is crisp and light, closing on a faint almond note. A polished, contemporary blanco made for sipping over ice or in delicate cocktails.
