Description
Casa Dragones, founded by Bertha González Nieves, the first certified Maestra Tequilera, makes this Joven in Jalisco in a deliberately light, modern style. Joven is not a formal NOM age class; it describes a tequila blended from spirits of differing ages where part of the blend is a blanco. Here the bottling marries a Tequila Blanco with a five year extra añejo aged in new American oak, then gives it a final gentle filtration in the manner of a Cristalino to reach a clear colour.
Each bottle is made by hand, down to a cork fitted individually, and the set ships with two Riedel glasses engraved using the traditional Mexican pepita technique. Made from Blue Weber agave and bottled at 40%, it shows subtle floral and citrus aromas over sweet roasted agave, then a smooth palate with vanilla, honey, pear and oak and a clean warm finish carrying a touch of hazelnut. The result is refined and light by intent rather than a rustic agave forward style.
