Description
Yoichi Single Malt Bourbon Wood Finish is a no age statement expression from Nikka's Yoichi distillery on the Sea of Japan coast of Hokkaido, owned by Asahi. It is part of the distillery's wood finish series, where spirit matured in Ex-Bourbon casks is given additional time in a second bourbon barrel to deepen and focus the wood contribution.
The finishing adds a noticeable new wood and fresh fruit character on top of the underlying vanilla the bourbon oak provides, with a thread of Yoichi's typical coastal smoke present in the background. Bottled at 46%, it is approachable without losing the distillery's firm, oily malt foundation that comes from coal-fired direct distillation.
