From a single virgin oak puncheon distilled at Yoichi in 1991 and aged 23 years, this La Maison du Whisky selection arrives at cask strength 62%, where fresh oak tannin and resin meet the Hokkaido distillery’s deep coal-fired smokiness.

Description
Yoichi 23 Years Old 1991 Cask 129459 (LMDW) is a single cask single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2014 by La Maison du Whisky for the event market. The cask, a virgin oak puncheon, is the defining feature of this bottling: a large, uncharred or lightly charred new oak vessel that imparts substantial tannin, coconut and resinous wood character over an extended period.
Twenty-three years in a virgin oak puncheon in Hokkaido's maritime environment builds an intense, structured profile, with the fresh wood's vanilla, coconut and spice gradually binding with the oily, smoky Yoichi new make. The result at 62% cask strength is a bold, wood-led single malt where the coal-fired distillery character of peat smoke and coastal weight persists beneath the density of more than two decades in new oak.
