Description
Yoichi 12 Years Old is a single malt from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, released to the Japanese domestic market in a 500ml bottle at cask strength. The 12 year age statement sits above the widely available 10 year expression, giving additional time for the Ex-Bourbon maturation to develop the spirit's baked fruit, vanilla and wood spice while Hokkaido's cool coastal climate maintains the peat smoke and firm malt that define Yoichi.
At 55%, this release is bottled at cask strength, preserving the texture and weight that the coal-fired direct distillation puts into the new make. The extra two years beyond the 10 year expression allow the oilier, heavier components of the spirit to soften toward dried fruit and leathery complexity, while the maritime influence of the Sea of Japan coast remains present throughout.
