Description
Shizuoka 5 Years Old is a cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from a standard Ex-Bourbon Barrel and bottled at 55.5% for global release in 2025. The smaller barrel format offers more surface contact than the Puncheon variant, typically pushing the wood integration a little further in the same five-year span.
The Ex-Bourbon Barrel contributes vanilla, fresh apple and light toasted cereal, characteristics that align with the Shizuoka distillery's clean, fruit-forward house style, itself shaped by cedar washbacks and a production philosophy centred on local ingredients. Bottled at cask strength in a 500ml format, this five-year expression presents the distillery at an early but increasingly confident stage of its development, with enough structure from the bourbon oak to give the spirit definition and length.
