Description
Taketsuru 21 Years Old is one of Nikka's most celebrated expressions, a blended malt drawing together malt whisky from Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture over 21 years in wood. This edition was bottled at 43% for the Japanese domestic market and noted for its oak cask maturation.
The profile shows the typical Taketsuru 21 house character: honey and malt extract sweetness underpinned by vanilla from the oak, with a nutty quality and a subtle new wood note giving structure. Yoichi's firmer malt frame sits beneath Miyagikyo's softer, more aromatic contribution, and the extended maturation brings a cohesion to the two sites that the 17 year expression works toward but the 21 achieves fully.
