Description
Taketsuru 17 Years Old is Nikka's blended malt combining malts from Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture, named for founder Masataka Taketsuru. This 2012 Netherlands release stands out within the age statement for its bottling strength of 46%, a few degrees above the standard 43% and enough to push the profile into more expressive territory.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon oak, the blend shows fresh fruit alongside leafy herbal notes, with a sherried undertow suggesting some sherry-influenced casks in the vatting. Yoichi's firmer, coastal malt and Miyagikyo's softer orchard fruit character combine cleanly, and the higher bottling strength adds texture and length to the finish.
