Description

The Chichibu Red Wine Cask 2023 is a no age statement single malt from Venture Whisky's Saitama distillery, bottled at cask strength 50.5% for worldwide release. Unlike the Paris and Taiwan editions focused on specific markets, this global expression is designed to show what red wine maturation does to Chichibu's characteristically vibrant new make spirit.

Matured entirely in red wine casks, the whisky develops a different personality to the Ex-Bourbon-led Paris Edition releases: the wine wood suppresses some of the bright fruitiness and introduces a cooked-mash character noted in the flavour data, alongside the softer tannin, berry and dried-fruit tones typical of red wine wood influence. At cask strength 50.5%, the full weight of the cask is present. Ichiro Akuto founded Chichibu in 2008 with a deliberately wide cask programme that includes wine, mizunara, sake and shochu wood alongside more conventional barrels, and this red wine release is a direct product of that adventurous approach.
