Description
Cask #9125 from Chichibu's 2012 vintage was matured in a red wine cask and bottled in 2020 for the US market as part of the distillery's single-cask programme. Chichibu, founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto in Saitama prefecture under Venture Whisky, regularly employs wine wood as part of its broad cask inventory, adding a European dimension to the Japanese spirit.
The red wine cask contributes the noted flavour profile of chocolate, fresh fruit and new wood, bringing a darker, denser character than the distillery's typical Ex-Bourbon output. At eight years old and 58% from a single barrel, the spirit balances the tannic grip of the wine wood with Chichibu's underlying fruit-forward brightness. The 750ml US bottling format underscores this as a market-specific allocation.
