Description
Chichibu's Floor Malted series highlights the distillery's practice of malting a portion of its own barley on-site in Saitama, a labour-intensive process connecting Ichiro Akuto's Venture Whisky operation directly to traditional whisky production. This single cask expression from the 2010 distillation was bottled in 2013 for the Japanese domestic market after three years in Ex-Bourbon wood.
Three years of Ex-Bourbon maturation on floor-malted spirit gives a clean, grain-forward profile: fresh barley sweetness, a slightly grassy and green character, light vanilla and a trace of coconut from the American oak. At 62% cask strength the bottling arrives with the natural intensity expected from a very young single cask, and the floor malting brings a textural creaminess that marks it out from standard-malted Chichibu releases of the same era.
