Oloroso sherry maturation gives dark plum, dried fig and a warm spiced richness to this 2010 Chichibu from Saitama, bottled at 59.4% cask strength for the Whisky Talk Fukuoka 2016 festival under the Ichiro’s Malt label, a six-year sherry expression from the 2010 vintage.

Description
Distilled at Chichibu in Saitama in 2010 and bottled in 2016 for Whisky Talk Fukuoka, this six-year-old Ichiro's Malt expression drew on Oloroso sherry cask maturation, a departure from the Ex-Bourbon wood that dominates most Chichibu releases of the period. Event releases tied to Japan's growing whisky festival circuit allowed the distillery to present different cask types to engaged specialist audiences.
Oloroso maturation brings dark stone fruit, dried fig and a warm spiced chocolate note that contrasts with the light citrus and apple character of Chichibu's bourbon-cask style. At 59.4% cask strength the richness from the sherry wood is well integrated, giving the spirit a fuller, more wine-influenced body than most of the 2010 vintage single casks, and the event context underlines the considered cask selection behind it.
