Description
Savanna The Wild Island Edition Grotte is a seven year old cane-juice rum from Savanna on Reunion, distilled on the distillery's Savalle still and bottled at cask strength of 61%. Savanna makes several families of rum, and this one is on the agricole side, made from fresh-pressed cane juice.
The Savalle column, a versatile metal multi-column still, gives a light-to-medium body with a sweet cane nose, and here the profile is fresh, fruity and floral: yellow fruits, citrus, herbs and light wood, with a touch of camphor and exotic fruit emerging on aeration. A cognac cask influence sits discreetly in the background. The high strength keeps it lively, and it rewards a good rest in the glass to let the floral-fruity character open. Certified unsweetened, it is a characterful, slow-sipping pour.
