Description
Bottled by Oldman Spirits for its Flensburg Rum Company line, this is a 2009 vintage TDL held sixteen years and released as a single cask. TDL is Trinidad Distillers Limited, the living producer behind Angostura, working strictly from Trinidadian molasses on column stills. Independent TDL single casks at this kind of strength are a more focused proposition than the light house bottlings, suited to drinkers who already enjoy the island's minty, herbal register.
Pot still distilled and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it carries the dry, woody backbone that long ageing lends. The aroma is woody and roasted with mint and spice, the palate stays in the same territory with roasted wood and tobacco, and the finish runs woody and spicy with a clear minty thread and a touch of smoke. Certified unsweetened, it can read alcoholic at first and gains depth with air, the kind of bottling that trades fireworks for composure at 62.4%.
