A 27 year old Clarendon from 1995, a concentrated, mentholic high-ester sipper of eucalyptus, dark wood, caramel and tropical fruit, a single cask bottled by Distilia at a hard-hitting 64.7%.
Description
Clarendon is a Jamaican workhorse running both pot and column stills, and its 1995 pot-still stock, marque EMB, has become a touchstone for old-Jamaica intensity. This single cask was bottled by Distilia in partnership with Rhum Attitude and Bar Lamp, drawn from that prized vintage and aged tropically for 27 years.
Distilled on the pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it is bottled unsweetened at a powerful 64.7%. The nose leads with menthol, eucalyptus, tropical fruit and dark spice, the palate turns intense and woody with caramel and mint, and the finish stays mentholic, fruity and barrel-driven. Long tropical ageing has concentrated everything into a dense, mint-soaked profile of the kind that the great Clarendons and minty Trinidad rums share, pushed near the limit while staying surprisingly balanced. A demanding old-Jamaica sipper for experienced palates, nothing to drink on the side.
