Foursquare Kill Devil 2006

Kill Devil is the rum line from Hunter Laing, the Scottish whisky house, bottling single casks at natural strength without chill filtration. This 2006 Foursquare comes overproof at 60.5 percent and draws on the Barbados distillery whose no-additives, island-aged style is the island's calling card.

The nose shows a classic Foursquare signature, a slight glue and acetone note over coconut, vanilla, toasted nuts and caramel, while the palate brings coconut, spice and dried fruit. The finish runs on coconut, tannins, pepper and oak. Distilled from molasses on pot and column stills and matured in oak, this is dry and unsweetened with the well-integrated alcohol and round, pastry-like body tasters expect from the distillery. The wood stays discreet but present, a confident overproof Bajan that delivers the house character without any dosage to round off its edges.
