A single cask Guadeloupe agricole from Domaine de Severin, 2020 and a year in ex-bourbon at 46%, vividly red-fruited with cherry and berries on the nose, a brown-sugar and cherry-wood palate, dry beneath the fruit with a bittersweet close.
Description
Domaine de Severin's Marsolle No. 06 is a single cask Guadeloupe agricole, distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice in 2020, aged one year in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 46%. Like others in the Marsolle range it shows the producer's traditional approach with a single-barrel character.
The defining feature is its red fruit. The nose is full of cherry, berries and overripe fruit, intensely fruity and soft, leaving little room for anything else. The palate brings brown sugar, cherry wood and more cherry, turning a touch flatter and drier with a firm alcoholic attack, before a bittersweet, fruity finish. At a year old it keeps young-agricole freshness beneath the fruit, the green cane core supporting the cherry rather than competing with it. A vivid, fruit-forward Guadeloupe single cask at honest strength.
