A single cask 24 Year Old Port Mourant marque from the Uitvlugt operation, Port-finished and bottled dry at 53.4%, leaning elegant with baked apple, grapefruit, tea and light wood spice.
Description
The Colours of Rum, a young but well-regarded purist bottler from Warsaw, selected this 1997 as a single cask drawing the Port Mourant marque from the Uitvlugt operation, the original distillery having closed in 2000 before the heritage stills moved to Diamond. Bottled unsweetened at 53.4%, it shows a lighter, fresher face of the famous double wooden pot still.
Matured in Port casks for twenty-four years, it trades the usual Port Mourant heaviness for freshness and citrus: baked apple, fruit, spice and wood on the nose, then spice, a touch of sweetness, wood and barrel on the palate, finishing dry on barrel, wood and grapefruit. The greenheart still's signature is still recognisable beneath the elegance. This is a refined, contemplative Port Mourant for drinkers who want the still's character without an old-school, oily bruiser, rewarding slow and attentive tasting.
