A thirteen-year cachaca from Brazil’s Epris, bottled by Cadenhead’s Green Label at 46%, a dry, grassy cane-juice spirit full of chamomile, hay and citrus peel with only a whisper of wood.
Description
This is cachaca, not Brazilian rum: a Brazil-only spirit made from fresh-pressed, fermented sugar-cane juice rather than molasses, here from the Epris distillery and bottled by Scotland's Cadenhead's under their Green Label. At thirteen years it is well aged for the category, yet it keeps its dry, grassy cane character front and centre.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at 46%, it wears its oak lightly, letting the cane speak. The nose is pure agricole-style cane: floral, grassy, with chamomile and hay, and the palate stays dry and vegetal with sugarcane, hay and a citrus-peel lift on the finish. Cadenhead's bottle without additives, and the bone-dry profile bears that out. An honest, refreshing, no-nonsense aged cachaca with subtle flavours rather than big body or sweetness, this is a quirky warm-day pour for anyone who enjoys lighter, drier cane-juice spirits.
