Glen Moray 13 Years Old 2008 Cask #2838/39 (House of McCallum)

A 13 year old Glen Moray from the bottler House of McCallum, distilled in 2008, from cask 2838/39, bottled at 46.5%, one of 684 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the light fruit lead. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady.

At 46.5% it is smooth and fruity. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
