Description
An 8 year old Glen Moray from the bottler A.D. Rattray, distilled in 2013, from cask 888, bottled at 65%, one of 331 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the clean, fruity spirit. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At its natural 65% it is concentrated. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
