Description
A 12 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 2008, at 57.83%, 498 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. A Cognac cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.83%, it is rich. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a grapey, raisined warmth from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
