Description
A 14 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 2006, at 59.6%, 1248 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
Distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in a Sauternes cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. It has been owned since 2008 by the French house La Martiniquaise. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At cask strength 59.6% it is full bodied. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
