Description
A 24 year old Glen Keith from the Dutch bottler van Wees, distilled in 1991, from cask 73630, bottled at 46%, one of 193 bottles. Glen Keith is a clean, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Keith in Moray. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into mango, beeswax and a soft honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It was mothballed in 1999 and revived by Pernod Ricard in 2013 after a full refit. Much of the Glen Keith make went to the blenders, a little kept as single malt.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
