Description
This Dufftown was bottled by Wemyss Malts, a 14 year old, distilled in 2008, bottled at 46%, one of 308 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt distilled in the town of Dufftown, the heart of Scotland's malt whisky country. In recent years the ferment was lengthened and the wort run clear for a grassier make.
It was distilled from unpeated Speyside malt in the distillery's six stills, for a clean, malty Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the smooth spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Built for the blender's art, the spirit ages with grace as a single malt. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Dufftown warehouses. Refill oak lets the nutty, malty Dufftown character lead the way. For years it made a rich, nutty, spicy spirit in the Bell's style.
At 46% it is smooth and nutty. A smooth, nutty Speyside fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run apple, malt and a soft honey. The finish is rounded, malty and gently spiced. This is Dufftown, a heart malt of the Bell's blend.
